Enjoying Holiday Music

Every year, I look forward to the Christmas holiday season. I love decorating a large, beautiful tree, baking delicious, seasonal desserts, going to holiday parties, and spending time with my parents at their farm. Because I’m a singer and a musician, I also like to listen to Christmas music. Sometimes, I listen to holiday tunes for several hours at the time. Whether I’m cleaning my home, driving down the road, or cooking dinner, my mood instantly improves after listening to some of my favorite holiday songs. On this blog, I hope you will gain an appreciation for holiday music. Enjoy!

Questions To Ask When Buying Rare Vinyl Albums Online

Blog

If you're a collector of vinyl records, there's no better feeling than hunting down a rare album and adding it to your collection. While you'll often find such albums at record stores, you'll also occasionally encounter a product online that you wish to buy. In person, you can thoroughly inspect the album to ensure that it looks as though it has been keep in mint condition. Online, though, you'll need to rely on a series of communications with the seller to ensure that you get an album that meets your criteria. It's a good practice to ask some questions to the seller before you complete the purchase. Here are some suggestions.

How Has The Album Been Stored?

The storage of vinyl albums is integral to their overall condition. If an album is stored in a sunny room, the colors on its sleeve can fade. While this won't affect the playing quality of the record, it will affect the value—which is especially a concern if you're shopping for rare vinyl. Another storage issue is if the album has been kept vertically—for example, placed in this manner in a crate. Over time, sitting vertically can cause the record itself to warp, which can diminish its playing performance.

How Can You Prove Its Rarity?

When you shop for rare vinyl online, you need to be sure that you know what you're getting. There's a significant price difference between the original pressing of a vinyl record and a reissue that, at first glance, looks like the original issue. Asking the seller to prove the product's rarity means that he or she should take photos beyond those posted online to help make you feel confident with moving forward. For example, if you're buying an album from 1973, you want to only see this year mentioned in the fine lettering on the rear of the sleeve—not 2014, for example, as this would indicate that the album was reissued in this later year.

How Will You Ship It?

A vinyl album in perfect condition needs to remain that way throughout the shipping process, so it's always a good idea to confirm how the seller plans to ship the album. You want to hear about the use of a vinyl record mailer. This type of thin box is made of corrugated cardboard to offer protection and fits snugly around the record to prevent it from sliding around and getting its corners dented.
